Once again I’m battling my fierce rival, Eager Ethan as we are both taking on a food challenge known as the Big Fatty Burger Challenge at Hamburger Mary’s in Chicago, IL. Many shenanigans took place this food eating challenge so I thought it would be fitting to post it today (April Fools) and give you my thoughts on all the shenanigans that took place!
The Big Fatty Burger Challenge at Hamburger Mary’s is essentially a three course meal food challenge! First there is an appetizer sampler consisting onion rings, chicken tenders, cheese curds, a pickle, and mac bites, all of which are deep-fried! There are also bbq sauce & ranch which are required. Second is the “Proud Mary” cheeseburger and a side of fries and then finally for dessert – deep fried twinkies!
Food Challenge Strategy
My strategy for the Big Fatty Burger Challenge was to first finish the burger & fries, then move on to appetizers, then finish with the deep-fried twinkies, occasionally using the sauces as needed to help change the flavor up and help keep the use of drinks down to a minimum.

Food Challenge Taste (4.5/5)
The food for this eating challenge was absolutely delicious! The cheeseburger was juicy and flavorful and the fries were seasoned really well too (better than I was anticipating!). All of the appetizers and the twinkies packed very rich flavors that exceeded my expectations! One minor complaint I would have is that the cheeses curds were starting to harden up when eating them.
Food Challenge Structure (1/5)
$33 is a very steep price for any “pay-to-play” food challenges, especially since you’re only awarded a shirt upon successfully completing the challenge. It doesn’t shock me to learn that not many people have attempted this food challenge, even though it is on the smaller size. Chicago has numerous food challenges to choose from, many which are free upon and other monetary prizes upon completing, so anyone who took time to look for food challenges in the area (perhaps on foodchallenges.com?) would most likely not make this a top candidate.
My suggestions for improving this food challenge? I would first say increase the difficulty of the challenge by either adding more food or less time to finish (20-30 minutes). Also offer monetary compensation upon completing the challenge. Preferably a gift card worth the value of the challenge but which must be used at a later time.
