In this video, I explore eating healthy options in Ubud Bali from a delicious meal overlooking green rice paddies to one of my favorite secret joints located outside of the main center. From the fragrant spices used to the rich and vibrant colors ...eating Indonesian food is always an exciting occasion.

For our very last day in Ubud Bali before departing for Europe, Nate and I decided that we were going to have a true Balinese day filled with relaxation, nature, and good food! We opted for a new restaurant called Sari Organik which is surrounded by lush rice paddies on every side. Although a bit difficult to find the place (ask locals to point you in the right direction), it was a very rewarding experience. After parking our motorbike next to a coconut palm, we walked the rest of the way to the Sari Organik.

I would go back here for the walk alone! It was absolutely gorgeous with stunning views of the jungle, farm workers laboring in the fields, and locals selling their handicrafts. The area is very quiet, as no cars can make their way up the hill. Only the occasional motorbike zips past you. The area is filled with restaurants, lounges, and spas which all have a spectacular rice paddy view.

Eating at Sari Organik was terrific! I thought the food was incredible. All of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. They offer traditional Indonesian dishes as well as an international selection (such as wraps and pastas). It's best to pair your meal with a fresh fruit smoothie such as the mango banana orange smoothie.

The prices reasonable for the portions served, and the ambiance is a notch above any other restaurant I've visited in Ubud. Enjoy a coconut and soak in the amazing view of green rice paddies.

Here are the dishes that I ordered and can highly recommend:

Nasi campur - This is a rice dish served with sambal matah (spicy sauce), tofu covered in peanut sauce, glazed tempeh in a sweet soy sauce, tempeh in a turmeric coconut curry, urab salad (green beans with shredded coconut), and a daily surprise (whatever dishes the kitchen has cooking).

Lontong- This dish is quite fascinating. It looks like a stew or curry (soup), although the main attraction of this meal are the compressed rice cakes. Rice is wrapped in a banana leaf and then boiled which produces a cylinder type object. This is then cut into circular round pieces. These rice cakes are delicious and have an interesting texture! This dish is mostly comprised of a rich coconut curry broth and then it's jam packed with vegetables. It's the perfect dish for a veggie lover!

Mango Banana Smoothie – Organic fruit blended with ice. Delicious and refreshing on a hot day.

Gado Gado – This dish was the showstopper! As a self-proclaimed peanut butter addict, this dish was incredibly satisfying. Boiled vegetables are topped with a terrific sate sauce of peanut butter and red chilies. The combination is electrifying and the flavors that come out of this dish are unbelievably good. Definitely a must eat dish if you dine at this restaurant.

Lastly, Nate and I stopped at Padi Organic for some drinks. One neat feature about this restaurant is that they have private huts that you can sit inside and look out at the rice paddies (no extra cost). I ordered a lemongrass tea and it was wonderful.
