Cooking Indonesian Food in Sumatra
The food in Indonesia is among the tastiest food I have tasted since travelling. While I was staying in Dumai, my friend Erick taught me how to cook some Indonesian food. We made 4 basic and simple dishes.
Acar (Salad) - a very simple salad:
2 cucumbers, peeled and sliced
1 carrot, julienne
8 small chillies sliced
3 small red onions (local onions are incredibly small, you could use half a large red onion)
White vinegar
a little salt and sugar
Fried Tempe (Tempe Goreng):
1 block of tempe sliced about 1/2 cm thick
about 1-2 tablespoons tamarind
a little beef stock powder
Pergedel:
about 4-5 potatoes
a few stalks of celery leaves
1 tbs fried onion
a little salt and pepper
beef stock powder
1 egg, seperated
Sambal Lado:
about 10-12 large chillies
2 tomatoes
1 tsp fried onion
a little salt and sugar
save the hot cooking oil from the tempe and pergedel and add about 5 tbs to the sambal
